Rogers has sent out an interesting claim this morning. They've just announced plans to bring the Acer Liquid e smartphone to Canada this spring, adding that it will be the "only Android 2.1 enabled device in Canada", meaning that of the selection of cellphones on the market that run Google's smartphone software, it will be the only one with the latest version. Or will it? The Motorola Milestone launched last week through Telus. It has the older Google software, but an update is expected to be released any day now for it to bring it to Android 2.1. Well, at least in the States. Still no word yet if the update will be offered in Canada. Today's clam from Rogers seems to suggest they know better. Here's the details on the Acer Liquid e.

Not a well-known phone brand in Canada, the Acer Liquid e is a touchscreen device, no physical keyboard, that places an emphasis on multimedia over productivity. This means a 5 MP camera, a 3.5" "high definition" screen, LED notification lights, and numerable services aimed at social networking including urFooz, a portable profile system where you create a look-a-like, and Spinlets, a streaming content service that may or may not be available here. Acer connected contacts is a tweak that lets you add the personal social media pages to their contacts details on your phone. It will offer both Wi-Fi and 3G internet access plus bluetooth, GPS, and Micro-SD card slot. As with other Android-powered smartphones, you'll have access to the Android Market to download apps. No word yet on whether the Liquid e will offer all or just a selection of the new Android 2.1 update features which can include animated wallpapers, voice navigation, multi-touch controls, etc.
