From the Tokyo Game Show in Japan, Sony has sent out a wave of PlayStation-related updates. The first is that fans can expect to see the the motion-based controls first unveiled earlier this year at the E3 Expo to become a reality in spring 2010. The company has yet to come up with an official name for the accessory, referring to is simply as the "Motion Controller", but says there will be thirteen games that will be able to use the new technology, including several titles already available such as Flower and PAIN thanks to a planned software update.

The Motion Controller is a wand with a sphere attached at its top that uses two motion sensors, a three-axe gyroscope, and a three-axe accelerometer to detect the exact position of the controller, including the angle and movement of it in a user's hand. The sphere at the top will change colours to offer visual feedback when its used with games, and will include a rumble feature similar to the DualShock PS3 controllers. Finally, to deliver even more accuracy, it will be combined with the PlayStation Eye camera, placed atop the television screen, to give the technology the ability to recognize and track both a user's face, voice, and body motion.

Similar to the existing PS3 controllers, the Motion Controller will be a wireless device using Bluetooth 2.0 and will have its own Lithium-ion rechargeable battery.

The announced list of games that will make use of it includes:

Ape Escape (Working Title)

Echochrome 2 (Working Title)

Eccentric Slider (Working Title)

Sing and Draw (Working Title)

Champions of Time (Working Title)

Motion Party (Working Title)

The Shoot (Working Title)

Tower (Working Title)

PAIN

Flower

Hustle Kings

High Velocity Bowling

EyePet

Sony has also announced new peripherals for the upcoming PSPgo, a digital-only version of the popular handheld gaming system. Starting in January 2010, the PSPgo will be supported with the release of Bluetooth Stereo Head-set Receiver. When paired with the PSPgo, users can use the set to listen to the audio tracks of both music and video with controls to play, pause, stop, forward, rewind, and adjust volume of media content. A new cable adaptor will also be released that will allow the new PSPgo to make use of peripherals originally designed and released for earlier PSP models.

And, following up on their recent price-slash and redesign of the PlayStation 3, Sony has announced that, world wide, they have sold 1 million units of the new, slimmer PlayStation 3, within the first three weeks of its sale.
