Dubbed by Research In Motion CEO Mike Lazaridis as the "first professional tablet", the BlackBerry PlayBook is 9.7 mm thin, has a 7" widescreen display, both front and rear-facing built-in HD cameras, HDMI and USB connections, and the ability to play 1080p High Definition Video. The new device was revealed on stage today in San Francisco during the company's annual developer's conference.

Although no release date or pricing information was shared, the company did expand to confirm that the PlayBook will have a 1 GHz Dual Core symmetrical multiprocessing with 1 GB RAM. It will also be Enterprise ready for corporations who have made that investment.
Unlike Apple's iPad, the PlayBook will include support for both HTML5 and Flash 10.1. Lazaridis also made a commitment towards stimulating the creation of new apps for both BlackBerry phones and the PlayBook with a new WebWorks package that will make it easy for anyone who can write HTML code to create apps and announced that BlackBerry Apps will be able to make use of the BBM social network, include in-app purchases, and include ads.
