RIM has just announced a new version of the BlackBerry Curve, one that offers better support for high-speed 3G networks around the world and includes an optical trackpad for menu navigation. Perhaps a little more significant is RIM's promise to allow the Curve 3G to download and install a software update to replace its operating system with the new BlackBerry OS 6 included with the recent launch of the BlackBerry Torch. RIM's announcement doesn't include which carriers will carry the new Curve, instead stating that it will begin shipping this month through carriers around the world with the previous OS loaded, and then a free update will be made available "in the coming months". Telus, Bell, and Rogers are all expected to launch the BlackBerry Torch sometime this fall.
