Microsoft's game show hybrid experiment is finally taking the next step forward this weekend. The beta trial for 1 Vs. 100, which broadcasts the television game show as an interactive online experience has been playing out here in Canada through Xbox Live since May, but without any prizes. Yes, it's been a fun trivia game and interesting to see Microsoft work out the kinks in creating a video game experience that uses a live host and audience, one that has to cater to thousands.
Attendance to the evening challenges has waned however, as the lack of any prizes has removed the much-needed stakes to give that much-needed drama. So, starting this Friday 10th, the game will now be awarding Microsoft points and Xbox Live Arcade games to those who score big. In 1 vs. 100, one player is chosen to take the spotlight and compete against a mob of one hundred other players while the rest play on as the audience.
Those who are selected to be "the One" will now earn Microsoft points for each member of the Mob knocked out. Go all the way and that can rack up to 10,000 points total. For those in the Mob, hang on long enough to be among the last 60 members of the Mob, you'll win an Arcade Game. If you can knock out the One, you'll get a share of the Microsoft Points up for grab. There's good news for the audience too, the top three scoring Crowd members will also pick up a free Arcade game.
Will it change things? We'll see tomorrow at 10pm EST/7pm PST.
