As Samsung prepares to sell their first 3D LED LCD televisions here in Canada tomorrow, Panasonic announced this week that those looking for 3D plasma will have to wait for their launch this June. The company will initially offer up four models this spring, a 50" model at $3,000 and a 54" model at $4,500 this May followed by a 58" at $4,000 and 65" at $5,000 in June. Each set will include one pair of 3D Active Shutter glasses. No word yet on a price for those glasses sold separately or details on Panasonic's 3D blu-ray player, although both are currently available in the US for $150 US each pair of glasses and $400 US for the player itself. The new 3D Viera televisions will also include an upgrade to their Plasma image quality as we see each year and are both mercury and lead-free. Added features include the ability to play HD content from a USB drive and the option to add a keyboard, wireless LAN adaptor, and camera to connect the set online for Skype-based video calls as well as access to YouTube, Twitter, Picasa Web Albums, Bloomberg News, and the Weather Channel.
