Two new online music services are set to launch here in Canada very soon. Rara.com has managed to gets its licenses in place so it can launch in 18 different countries this week, managing that rare launch that happens in both Canada and the US. Deezer.com, a service that has been active in Europe for several years, will follow with a launch in the new year and actually do so before any planned launch for the US.

Rara.com is based on a subscription model. It will offer a library of more than 10 million tracks. You can listen to them using a web browser on your computer for $4.99 each month. To use an Android smartphone the price goes up to $9.99 per month. If you cancel your subscription, you lose access to all the music.

Rara.com says they have deals in place with all the major record labels, will have an app for both Android and Apple devices, allow users to share music though Facebook, and will offer curated channels where users can listen to music as they would with radio stations.

The service will open today in the US and then in Canada by the end of this week. The first three months of a new subscription will be offered for $0.99 per month lure users to give it a test run.

Deezer will confirm it’s Canadian pricing later on, but also offers access to a large library of music through both the web and smartphones for a monthly fee. Users can even download tracks to their phones to listen to them offline. Deezer originally gained popularity in Europe by offering free music streaming supported by ads.

Both services will compete against Rdio here in Canada which currently offers a monthly subscription of $4.99 per month for access through a web browser and $9.99 per month to include a smartphone.
