Unless you're into statistics a census can be a mundane activity to explore, but with a little inspiration from Google's Street View, the United States census has created an interesting way to visualize the diversity of lives their census reaches.
Stories2010 offers panoramas of three areas that represent different types of communities; a downtown city district, a rural farming landscape, and a small town community. Each location is frozen in time, everyone is caught in the moment of crossing the street, walking, the dog, shopping, etc. If you click on a one of the selected people you'll get to delve into personality, hear them and watch them speak about their lives. What makes it entertaining is the real range of people included. We're used to see American Life as being portrayed in a clean, iconic way, but here we get a real diversity of fun individuals. I love
Tootsie and Snowman, the owners of a popular BBQ pit in texas or
"The Scorpion" a colouful cab driver and philosopher.
