You can now visit Mars in stunning detail through the zoomable gaze of Microsoft's
WorldWide Telescope software. The free web and desktop-based application is a collaboration between NASA and the computing giant, offering high resolution exploration of the skies and our galaxy using the best imagery collected from ground and space-based telescopes and camera systems. Today's new update opens the red planet for an in-depth visit including tours by NASA researchers that offering engaging lessons on the planet's age as well as its potential for sustaining life. More than 13,000 images have been used to create the 3D imagery which you can pan and zoom through. Also included in the update is a new visual representation of the night sky, a Terapixel Sky Image that smoothes out the contours and gets rid of the tile-like appearance of the image segments to create a panning experience that is effortless.
