It seems there have always been dancing and singing robots, but the latest model from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan is by far the most human-looking and now the most human in singing voice. HRP-4C is her name and she's been given two technologies, VocalListener, software that can allow it to analyze and duplicate the qualities of human singing voice, and VocalWatcher, which allows her to observe and imitate the facial movements of a singer as well. Her creators are currently working on giving her an upgrade that will allow her to pick up on and imitate the breathing sounds made by singers, the subtle in-takes of air that singers slip into their performances to power their singing.
