Google's eBook store is now open for business in Canada, offering "hundreds of thousands" of titles for sale. This is in addition to their free collection of classics which has been avaialble for some years now. The store will offer book formats that will work on a home PC or Mac along with compatible mobile devices including the iPad, Kobo, Sony Reader, and even the Barnes & Noble Nook.
The Google Canada eBook store will include services in the Cloud, offering both storage and syncing of titles. This will allow users to start reading a book on one device and to then pick up and continue reading where they left off on another.
Google Canada says their eBook store launches with partnerships in place with all of the major Canadian publishing houses, will offer a full catalogue of popular Canadian authors, and include relationships with independant publishers such as McNally-Robinson in Winnepeg and the Kingston-based Campus Bookstore. The promise is that we'll see more partnerships being announced n the weeks to come.
