Today Google has introduced a faster version of their popular search site. Google Instant can now deliver results before you finish typing in your search term and without you even having to hit the return key. It uses streaming technology so as you type in letters into the search field, it predicts what you're trying to type and fills the screen with matching results that continue to update with each new letter you add. The service is being rolled out today in the United States and Canada, meaning some people will see it when they visit Google right away, others will have to wait until later this week. To use Google Instant you need to be signed in to a Google account and have to use either the Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer 8 web browsers.

Google Instant works by combining the library of instant results the company has gathered over the years to speed up searches and their predictive technology which attempts to guess what common words people are entering in order to save time typing. By making these both streaming services, they can deliver instant results.

Once you've typed in your search term, you can also use the down arrow key on your keyboard to scroll down through the predicted search terms, with each one instantly delivering an updated page of results.

The overall benefit that Google is aiming for is to significantly increase the speed of search, to take the task of searching the internet and make it nearly automatic.

I've had a chance to try out Google Instant today and the speed, convenience, and accuracy is frightening and impressive. This is significant move forward for Google.
