PlanetInAction has released a phenomenal simulation game add-on for Google Earth called Ships. Immediately, I'm reminded of the kind of detail and control found in Microsoft's Flight and Train Simulator programs. The way the craft bob up and down in the water, the sound effects (including engine sounds and fog horn), and the intricate controls with multiple camera views. As a virtual helmsman you can take the wheel on a very wide range of vessels including barges, container ships, and cruise ships, including the Queen Mary 2. And of course, this being Google Earth, you can take them through any water way in the world. The software is full of tricks, hints and many cool extras. For example, you can go airborne to see your ships from the skies for they have included as a hidden sim the Hindenburg, the same airship from 1937. Best part? It's free and as long as you have the Google Earth plug-in, it runs in your browser. To give you an appreciation of just what has been accomplished, I'm including this video review from the Google Earth Blog
