”D-Box"

D-Box's Motion Simulation Chairs are ready for their first official appearance within movie theatres in the United States. For years the Quebec-based company has sold its motion-activated chairs, which use a sophisticated mix of electromechanical motors and program codes tailored for each movie, to home theatre buffs and high-end consumers look to add a bit of a theme park ride thrill to their living rooms. Now the technology is being adopted by the cinema industry as a way to lure audiences into their cineplexes and away from the convenience of DVD rentals and movie downloads.

Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California and the UltraStar Surprise Pointe Theater in Surprise, Arizona will be the first to launch with the chairs in one of their screening rooms on April 3rd with the release of "Fast & Furious", starring Vin Deisel and Paul Walker. Audiences sitting in the D-Box chairs will be able to feel the surge of the car engines, the sliding of the tires as they drift, and the rumble of the wheels as they go over rough terrain. If the launch proves successful, then more theatres are expected to adopt the new technology, hopefully a few cinemas here in Canada, D-Box's native country.
