Corner Gas fans will get their first chance to chat online with stars Nancy Robertson and Fred Ewanuick as they hit the "tubes" during the premiere of their brand new shows "Hiccups" and "Dan For Mayor". The idea is to create an interactive experience for those watching the premieres and who habitually watch television with a computer nearby. Nancy will log on first at 8Pm EST this Monday, March 1st and then Fred will take over at 8:30pm EST. The session will close at 9PM, but transcripts of both chats will be available for those watching the shows on delayed broadcasts in other time zones. More details will be available on our front page this Monday.
If you haven't caught the promos, Hiccups is the latest comedy from Corner Gas creator Brent Butt. Set in Vancouver, Brent plays a life-coach trying to guide Nancy's character, a children's author. It's a relationship that becomes the lost leading the lost.
Fred's new show is called Dan For Mayor in which he plays a man who decides to run for mayor in his hometown of Wessex, Ontario.
Brent won't be involved in the chat, but you can follow him on Twitter here. Dan's an unlikely candidate being someone who still has the same friends from high school and his only prized possession is a vintage Ms. Pac-Man game. His ambitious stab at politics leads him onto an entertaining life journey.
Several movie studios and television networks have been playing with the idea of adding social networking to the viewing experience with mixed results. The intent here is that since today's audiences are already exchanging messages during broadcasts through Twitter and Facebook, it makes sense to create an avenue that the stars and show creators can get join the conversation. It'll be interesting to see how CTV audiences take to it this Monday.
