Popular smartphones including the Blackberry Bold and Apple's iPhone are amongst many smartphones launching on Bell and Telus this week, the result of both wireless carrierers adding a new HSPA network that not only expands their ability to support more handsets, but also increase their ability to deliver 3G wireless internet access. The network itself has launched today and Bell has already added a number of new handsets, including the iPhone 3G S, to retail stores while Telus will follow with their own release of the iPhone 3G S and other handsets tomorrow. 

Bell says the new HSPA-based network will offer speeds as high as 21 Megabits per second and will be available in approximately 20,000 Canadian towns and cities.

In addition to the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, here's the new phones now available through Bell as a result:

BlackBerry Bold 9700

Includes a touch-sensitive trackpad, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.2 MP camera, a 624 MHz processor, a microSD/SDHC memory card slot with a 2 GB card included. Is available for $229.95 on three years, $599.95 without.

BlackBerry Bold 900

Offers GPS, Wi-Fi, 2MP camera, microSD/SDHC memory card slot (up to 1 GB) and is available for $249.95 on three years, $599.95 without.

LG Xenon

Includes a touchscreen display with an interface that offers three customizable home screens, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, 2.0 MP camera, and threaded message display. Available for $89.95 on three years, $289.95 without,

Nokia 6350

A flip phone with an MP3 player, 2 MP camera (still and video), Bluetooth 2.1 and expandable memory up to 16 GB. Available for $49.95 on three years, $249.95 without.

Nokia 2730

Includes an MP3 player, 2 MP camera, and expandable memory up to 2 GB. Available as an exclusive for Bell for $29.95 on three years, $119.95 without.

Novatel U998 HSPA+ Turbo Stick

Good for both Mac and PCs, this turbo stick doubles as a memory stick, expandable up to 32 GB. Offers a speed up to 21 Mb/s. Available for $74.95 on three years, $174.95 without.

Samsung OMNIA II

A large 3.7 inch touchscreen display with Windows Mobile 6.5, a 5 MP camera, Wi-Fi, and memory expandable to 48 GB. Available for $199.95 on three years, $549.95 without.

Samsung Impact

Includes a touchscreen display with an advanced motion and speech-controlled interface, integrated media player, full HTML web browser, memory expandable up to 4 GB, and 3 MP camera/camcorder. Available for $79.95 on three years, $279.95 without.

 

In addition to the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, here's the new handsets being added by Telus:

HTC Hero

An exclusive to Telus, this touchscreen handset runs Android and offers seven customizable home screens and support for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and IM amongst other messages and social networking options.

LG New Chocolate

Tall and slim with a 4.12" touchscreen, this handset offers widescreen mode for watching movies with Dolby Mobile Sound and is an exclusive to Telus.

BlackBerry Bold 9700

Nokia E71
