I know enough of flies and other insects that they do not act that way! Before the 21st century there was very little recognition or empathy for any living thing. To think Smith didn't submit insects or animal to "harm" is naive.

"The Acrobatic Fly" is the work of Percy Smith, a pioneer in the field of nature documentaries using techniques in time-lapse and micro-cinematography to produce revealing studies of insects and plant life. He produced several short films including "The Strength and Agility of Insects", "Birth of a Flower" and "Secrets of Life". Smith assured his audiences at the time that his subjects were not harmed in the making of his work. If you look at his body of work I think you'll be inclined to be less suspicious of the motives behind this film.

The fly in the 1910 acrobat film was obviously glued down and trying desperately to get up. Very cruel. Wish you hadn't put the video on.
