”Gwap"Carnegie Mellon University has released a new online computer research program called Games With A Purpose or GWAP. The idea is to get you, the web-surfing piblic, to donate your time and play some fun online games that in turn assist with the development of important computer-based technology. There are currently five games to participate in - The ESP Game, where you have to describe through words an image to another online player, Tag A Tune which takes the same concept to music, Verbosity takes the guessing and describing game to just words, Squigl asks one player to use their mouse to trace an image for the other to identify, and Matchin which asks you to pick a favorite photo from a set of two images. In each case a computer records your results and learns to understand the process by which you pick, guess, and identify data, which helps computers "become smarter" and can be applied to all sorts of computer-based research. You take a break for some casual fun, and yet you are still making a difference.
