Cellphone whispersPlease put down the pitchforks and torches, you’ve got me, I’ll answer all of your crazy cellphone questions today. We’ll start with the Apple iPhone of course and then move into the LG Chocolate for Bell.

The Telus Rumour

Telus will definitely be offering the iPhone. This was posted in the comments section by reader "Pat" who claims to have been told this by a Telus Customer Service Rep. Not True. My contacts at Telus tell me that they “would absolutely LOVE” to have the iPhone and are “VERY interested” in carrying it, but must point out that the iPhone is a GSM handset and the Telus network uses the CDMA frequency. Should Apple unveil a new version of the iPhone for CDMA, then yes, Telus will be all over it, but until then…..It’s worth adding that Steve Jobs did say during his keynote that they plan on releasing a version of the iPhone that supports a 3G or EVDO high-speed data connection. (typically offered through CDMA networks). Telus does offer an EVDO connection and so there might be an iPhone variation for Telus to pounce on in the distant future.

Bell Rumours

The Blackberry Pearl WhiteA few people wrote to me to ask if, since Rogers had the black version of the Pearl, might Bell not get the white one?As today’s announcement confirms – nope. The LG ChocolateTelus has it. Fido has it. Rogers has it. When will Bell finally get it? Internet rumours have been flying that it will arrive from Bell in time for Valentine’s Day and as a result I’ve received several e-mails asking for confirmation. So, will Bell use Valentine’s Day to launch the Chocolate? Will we see Frank and Gordon star in a new “dating” commercial? Will there be chocolate beavers for sale at the Bell store?Bell’s official answer – “It is Bell policy to not discuss products or services before they are announced.”Bell is, as usual, infamously tight-lipped about their upcoming products. Considering their poor track record when it comes to having the “must-have’ phones, wouldn’t you be the same?

Bell right now is putting all of their energy into the LG Fusic music phone. It’s their exclusive and it’s the phone appearing in all of the new Frank and Gordon beaver ads (replacing the Vox). Because Bell will be the last network to get the Chocolate, it’s unlikely they will draw much attention to it if they do launch it. They will probably add it quietly to their catalog and hope that people will think it had been there all along. That means no special Valentine’s Day promotion and no Chocolate phones for Frank and Gordon. Since Bell is a CDMA network, when and if they finally do add the Chocolate to their catalog, it will be the LG 8500, the same model being offered by Telus. The Apple iPhoneBell’s answer to this is the usual - “It is Bell policy to not discuss products or services before they are announced.”Again, Bell is a CDMA network and the Apple iPhone is a GSM handset, making Bell the unlikely choice for the iPhone.

Rogers Rumours

Rogers is unique in that all of their plans are already public knowledge. They just launched a 4GB giveaway promotion for the Sony Ericsson W810i and just announced the Blackberry Pearl White. The Apple iPhoneAs I pointed out in my first article on the iPhone, Rogers and Fido are the networks that can support it and the most likely to get it. Here’s the statement from Rogers COO Nadir Mohamed - “given that it is a GSM phone and that we are the only GSM carrier in Canada, we are in a good position to bring the iPhone to Canada, more to come”
