Today's Toy Fair clip features two items for the little ones. First is the iPlay Lift Off Rocket playset which stood out not just for its cool Art Deco rocket design, but because it was one of the few interactive toys at the fair that wasn't branded as a Dora or SpongeBob item. With a fun count-down sequence, flashing lights, and flying sound effects, the rocket was a popular choice amongst fair attendees. When the set arrives later this year it will include two astronauts, a space dog, alien, dune buggy, and moon crater. It is rated for ages 18 months and up and will sell for about $40. The second item I found hidden at the Learning Resources booth. The GeoSafari Talking Microscope features a number of slides with chips planted in them. When you slide one into the Microscope's stage, it triggers the toy to run through a number of educational programs, from an audio tour of the micro creature seen through the eyepice to multiple choice quizes and games. In recent years the toy market has been hit by a wave of interactive talking educational toys, but what I liked about this one (aside from the Geek cred of being a microscope) is the physcial interactivity of placing slides and looking through the scope. The scope has a 5X magnifyer with a backlight, and as you can see from the video it makes it very easy to see the images. The set comes with slides for 12 insects and spiders and 120 fun facts. GeoSafari also makes a talking Telescope (although it's not as nice). It's for ages 5 and up.
