The Windows Vista Ice House is an 1800 square foot home completely carved out of large, ice blocks. From the furniture, the appliances, the decorations, and yes, even the kitchen sink, everything is transparent ice, and everything has the details to give it that “lived-in look”. Everything that is, except for the computers placed in each room, running Windows Vista. Located at the Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto, the house will be open to the public starting at 10 am today.Commissioned by Microsoft Canada, the idea is to celebrate and draw attention to the launch of Windows Vista in a style that is very Canadian. Created by Ice FX, the house is made up of 270,000 lbs of ice and took over 800 man hours to complete. The sculptors began with a supply of 900 ice blocks, each weighing 900 lbs. For those of you who can’t see this fascinating spectacle in person, I offer this full tour of the house and all its little details through a series of picture galleries for each of the main rooms. The Kitchen is full of fun details, from the sink and coffeemaker, to the microwave and family photos. The plates and cups all have decorations etched into them and in the nearby laundry room you can see a box of ice detergent sitting atop a washer and dryer. There's a newspaper sitting on the corner of the kitchen island and over on the dining table is a large open book.
