Apple iPhone 4

Apple has a history of leading the industry through new, experimental features. From touchscreens and visual voicemail, accelerometers and mobile apps the other phone manufacturers have been left to scramble behind. This time it’s a different story. With a wrap-around antenna, a video calling app, and built-in gyroscope the iPhone 4 certainly has unique tricks to offer, but their value is so uncertain no one’s planning to copy them anytime soon. Instead the new iPhone pushes forward with three powerful, core updates; better screen, better camera, better battery. In fact the screen, in my opinion, is the best in the industry. [More]

The Dreamerz

It's Friday and that means its time to lock you away inside one of the many puzzle rooms scattered across the internet. Can you find your way out in time to enjoy the weekend?

On a small, distant asteroid rests a dream machine, a giant, and a singing whale. One day, the dream machine simply stops working and the universe needs a hero. That's you. Can you bring the machine back to life? You'll need to search the small asteroid as well as the nearby connected system of planetoids for hidden items to use amongst the strange and wondrous devices and creatures that inhabit this little patch of the universe. The Dreamerz is engaging in its imagination, full of surprises and so carefully made with illustrations and ideas that each seem to tell their own story. There is a logic to everything you see, but should you give up make sure to use the Walkthough. Good Luck.

Looking to keep herself occupied during her maternity leave, copywriter Adele Enersen decided to get a little creative during her daughter's naps. She began to imagine what kind of dreams her little girl might be having and decided to create and photograph those scenes as a blog project. From performing at the circus to playing with imaginary friends, surfing at the beach and even taking flight, her photos are bright, playful and no doubt will be a wonderful source of delight for her daughter when she grows older. Enersen lives in Helsinki, Finland where all new mothers are sent a care package from the government. She explains on her blog that several of the outfits featured in her work come from that package.  [More]

Cuponk

The world is full of drinking games, but none have more voraciously consumed at college and university campuses than Beer Pong. The game is simple - two players try to expertly bounce a ping pong ball into the other’s plastic beer cup. The one who misses has to drink the other’s beer. Since alcohol will impair your motor skills, players spend more time losing and getting drunk than scoring, and so the goal is to try for one of those fluke shots that can turn into legend the next day when rose-tinted memories rise up as the hangovers fade.As you might expect the game has drawn an air of infamy and controversy, partly for encouraging irresponsible drinking, and partly because drinking from a cup loaded with a ball that has touched every surface in the room is, well, unsanitary. Like all forbidden trends, it’s one that has trickled down to high schools where teens are just as eager to prove themselves socially and have come up with their own variations. [More]

Safari 5

For a long time now it has been a popular feature within Mozilla's Firefox browser, today Apple has added support for extensions within their own Safari 5 web browser. With the new version of Safari 5 for Mac and PC, users can visit the extensions gallery to one-click install a range of added features including live feeds from Twitter, eBay, Rotten Tomatoes and add-on features that filter webpages for annoying content, shorten web urls, or simply dim your desktop when playing streaming movies. To limit issues with security Apple is forcing all extensions to be signed with a digital certificate to prevent tampering and have sandboxed each add-on so it cannot access information on your computer or communicate with unrelated websites. Also included in the update is Safari Reader which presents web articles in a scrollable view to eliminate clutter.

Life Before Death

As much as LifeBeforeDeath.com will remind you that the end is inevitably coming, the idea behind the humourous website is to provide you with a set of activities designed to remind you how much you have left to look forward to. You can create your own bucket list of things to do, a last playlist of all the music you'll want to use to go out with a bang, and Say It, a chance to write your last messages to those around you through Facebook. A strange website, yes? There's other goodies to explore, my favourite being famous parting shots, a gallery of witty epitaphs.  [More]

Duracell myGrid

Sure, they all plug into the same outlet in the wall, but every rechargeable gadget uses its own proprietary cable. If you need to charge your phone in an emergency, the world can seem full of cables made for every phone other than your own. A Nokia cable won’t work with a Motorola phone, an iPhone cable won’t work with a BlackBerry. How insidious. Duracell’s myGrid is the latest attempt to create one system to charge them all. It’s a metal pad that plugs into an outlet and can charge up to four different gadgets, from different brands, at the same time, no cables needed. Sounds wonderful, but of course there’s a rather complicated catch. [More]

BlackBerry 6

Research In Motion will hold a special press event in the United States next Tuesday, August 3rd. No details have been given as to what the big reveal will be, other than a joint announcement with wireless carrier AT&T. As such it's expected to be news for the US market only and press invites have been sent out to select US journalists only. For several months now RIM has teased a new operating system for their BlackBerry devices which adds fluid touch controls, universal search, enhanced social and media features, and a much-wanted revamped web browser. Surely the new operating system will get its debut next week along with a new BlackBerry design. RIM has given no official hints as to what the next BlackBerry will look like, but the web has been abuzz with speculation of a slider design. We'll find out next Tuesday.  [More]

New Intel processors and updated graphics cards have been added to the all-in-one iMac computer, which now start at $1,299 CND. Aimed at hard core desktop users, the Mac Pro has new components offering 50% more performance with 12 processing cores and starts at $2,599 CND, and the LED Cinema Display is now available in a larger 27" size, offering a 2560 x 1440 resolution at $999. But perhaps the more curious announcements today are the introduction of two new accessories; a battery charger and large track pad. [More]
