Those of you following my Twitter account know I received a mysterious box earlier this week that contained a number of G. I. Joe movie toys. With my Friday slowly winding down I thought I'd quickly shoot a video, just to show off the more electronic of the toys in the package as well as to explore the evolution of the line from its humble beginnings forty-five years ago. Featured is the 12" Snake Eyes Ninja Commando doll ($30 ages 4+), the Night Raven jet ($60, ages 4+) and the animatronic Accelerator Suit Duke figure ($120, ages 5+) which far exceeded my expectations as to what might have been inside that box. It's been a long journey since G. I. Joe first appeared in 1964 and if early reviews of the movie are any indication it still has quite an interesting future ahead of it.

Google Wallpaper

One of the nice elements of Microsoft's Bing search engine is the photographic wallpaper they use. Searchslate.com is making sure Google fans aren't missing out. They have assembled a series of wallpaper screens you can use to decorate Google with. From nature scenes to sport cars, poetic landscapes to cosmic explorations, just click on the one you want to use and then set it as your homepage for future use. There are seven categories in total, only with a handful of wallpapers each, but the selections is extremely good and no doubt will continue to expand.  [More]

Purism

It's Friday which means it's time for me once again to lock you up inside one of the many puzzle rooms scattered across the internet to see if you can escape in time to enjoy the weekend. while some of the rooms I send you to offer a great deal of mood and atmosphere, Purism falls into the more traditional vein offering a pure mindbender collection of puzzles to discover and solve. Click around the room and be sure to click everywhere, collect the strange and unusual objects you'll find and do your best with the unusual clues left for you to ponder. The puzzles are tough, but worth the effort. Good luck.  [More]

Scott Pilgrim

Canadian graphic novelist Bryan Lee O'Malley is having a very good year. Not only are his Scott Pilgrim books being turned into a feature film by director Edgar Wright (Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), but premiere game studio Ubisoft Montreal is working on a video game adaptation. The company says that his stories, in which out-of-work 22 year-old Scott Pilgrim must battle a series of evil ex-boyfriends in order to claim the heart of his new crush, Ramona Rollerblades, brings with it the natural escalation used for video game design and that the gang in Montreal are huge and very excited fans. Insanewich

There is culinary craft and then there is culinary engineering and Insanewiches.com is a blog that is definitely devoted to the latter. You'll find sandwiches formed into strange shapes, from rubik's cubes to dress ties, sandwiches crafted from bizarre ingredients and meals that may have started out as one kind of food and then transformed into something else. There's always a picture and a rating system for visitors to vote although I think the question best asked for each would be "Would you eat this?" [More]

Microhoo

This morning “bing” became the sound of a done deal between Microsoft and Yahoo. A long and tumultuous negotiation between the two has finally come to a close, one that will see the two companies combine their search businesses to take on Google. Microsoft’s new Bing search engine will power both company’s services on search and Yahoo will take leadership on ad sales. Together they will represent about 30% of the market, placing them a distant second behind Google, but with the hope that the combined resources will be enough to gain more ground. [More]

Samsung N120 netbook

To help get their name out into the world of netbooks Samsung has come up with a clever hack. They have a way to connect a digital photo frame to a computer so it can be used as a second monitor. Combine it with a netbook and you have the smaller version of those fancy dual-monitor desktop stations that professionals like to use. With your Windows desktop spread across two screens, you can better arrange your applications and, the idea is, enjoy better productivity. [More]

Swedish Armed Forces

The Swedish Armed Forces are back with a new series of recruitment tests to challenge your cognitive skills, memory retention, and ability to make decisions under tough circumstances. Following the success of last year's interactive quiz, the group has invested more into the campaign producing a stunning interactive experience, one with more elaborate scenarios, a rather chilling environment, and an eerie, but fascinating review program at the end that goes through your results in-depth. This is not your typical light n' fluffy online quiz, fun as it is, be prepared to focus and get ready for a serious challenge.  [More]
