”Starbucks"At participating Canadian Starbucks Coffeehouses, located within Ontario and Western Canada, customers can pick up a special “Pick of the Week” iTunes card that will allow them to redeem a complimentary free song or music video from the Canadian iTunes Store, as selected each week by the Starbucks Entertainment Team and iTunes. The cards will appear in over 700 Starbucks location every Tuesday and although they haven’t said, I’m guessing will be available as long as supplies last. The cards are being offered today and the first complimentary song is Constant Knot by City and Colour. The cards will be good for up to 60 days before the codes will expire. In addition, a new Starbucks Entertainment Area has been added to the Canadian iTunes Store where songs selected through the program will be featured. [More]

A fantastic roller-coaster ride in the skies, "The Ride" takes us through an exhilarating automotive adventure as a car travels through an airborne course on its way to an upgrade. Not an ad, the short is meant to be a metaphor for the creative process, of how an idea journeys from a rough concept to a polished result. Created by King And Country

”Splicd"You've found a very funny YouTube clip you'd like to share with your freinds except that the very funny bit isn't until the end of the video, after a long boring sequence. Instead of telling your friends to, really, stick through it, that it's worth it, you can edit out the boring bits using Splicd. Just insert the url of the YouTube clip and then enter in the stop and start times from the timecode. You'll be given a new url you can then e-mail to your friends. [More]

”MashFaceIts an old. but popular gag. You take a photograph of someone famous, cut out their mouth or eyes and then hold it up to your face and place your own lips or eyes through the holes and then talk in a silly voice to entertain your friends. You've probably seen it used on later night TV. MashFace is the digital equivalent. First you use a webcam to record your celebrity impression, then use MashFace to select and cut out a section of your face from the video, it can be any section you wish, then upload your target photograph, doesn't have to be a celebrity, and it will insert your moving facial features into the photograph for a clip you can send to your friends. Works really well. [More]

”Jitterbug"Missing In Canada is a weekly feature where I will profile gadgets from other countries, consumer items that aren’t available here and (except for rare import shoppes) probably never will. A popular request from my audience is to suggest a cellphone that is designed simply for making phone calls and nothing else. No text messaging, no e-mail or internet, no camera, just a basic phone that’s easy to use. Unfortunately no such creature exists…..in Canada. Available only within the United States, the Jitterbug is exactly the cellphone described in those requests. It is designed for making calls and nothing else. It features a large, friendly keypad with buttons marked in clear English instead of cryptic symbols and the service includes a live, 24-hour human operator that you can call to help you anytime. ”WarnerWarner Bros. Entertainment held a media briefing this past Wednesday on their upcoming DVD and Blu-ray releases and despite the presence of a wicked ice sculpture of the Bat Pod from The Dark Knight, they could only confirm that the batman movie will be released on Blu-ray in the coming months and that it will be their first title to support BD Live 2.0. The new Blu-Ray format will include a number of online-based features such as downloadable material and community-based features. Unfortunately they aren't ready to announce a release date or any details as to what those features will be. They did, however, pull the tarp off on an impressive number of Ultimate Collector’s and Limited Edition boxed sets. [More]
