”GoogleGoogle is always playing around with new ways to search the internet and organize results. Within their R & D labs are many different versions of their web service being tested and explored and now you can try out five of these projects. There are five Google Experiments to explore, and unfortunately you can only choose to try out one at at time. Once you select, it will replace the regular Google homepage and become your default way of search the web. There's a timeline version that expresses results in visual context to measurements such as maps, dates, locations, etc. There's a keyword version that analyze your search and suggest alternate words you can use to get better results, a keyboard shortcut version where you can use selected letter keys to navigate (J for next result, K for previous) and both a left-handed and right-handed versions that pack information to either side of your screen. There's some quick demos you can try for each if you don't want to make a commitment, but if you join one, you can send Google feedback as to what you think about it all. [More]

”FeedWhiskas Canada has just launched a new virtual pet game called FeedTheCat.ca where you can adopt and take care of your own virtual man cat. What's a man cat? It's a grown man acting and behaving like a cat and it's easily the saddest thing I've seen on the internet (which is saying a lot). Once you register, you'll be given the choice of adopting a kitten (pictured), an indoor cat, an outdoor cat, or a senior cat. From there you can watch your man cat bound around your virtual apartment and use your first 100 points to buy it wet food, dry food, treats, or toys. Click on an item and watch as your man cat interact with it. You're encouraged to check in on your man cat throughout the day, attend to it with regular petting and feedings. If you don't it will get sad and despondent, it might even leave you for another owner. Should it suddenly come down with a hairball or an emergency, it will send you an e-mail asking you to report back in for help. Do a good job and you'll get discounts off of Whiskas products. [More]

”Orbita"A cute little platform game by Matthew Bush, Orbita puts you into the role of a square-headed fellow trapped on a small planetoid. You must guide him through the many obstacles on its surface to locate batteries so he can power his ship and leave. What immediately sets this a part from all the others is the fantastic art design and music, and for a game where it's quite easy to die (with noe extra lives)m it sure helps you play again and again. ”9mmWith the rise in popularity of horror, fantasy, super hero movies, Hollywood has exploded in their use of theatrical contact lenses. The eyes are the window of the soul and simply changing them is an easy and powerful way to convey that an actor is no longer human. 9mmSFX is leading provider of theatrical contact lenses, with an online catalog that includes designs that can change your pupils into spiders, flames, teeth, and cyborg circuitry. Ranging in price from $180 to $350 a pair, these aren't your typical Halloween props, and some, like the Predator, Dark Angel, and Vampire Lestat designs, I'm sure you'll recognize. [More]

”Fridgewatcher"The Internet is home to many odd collections and Fridgewatcher is yet another one. Built on the belief that you can tell a lot about a person just by looking inside their refridgerator, the site asks visitors to submit photos of the inside of their refridgerators for others to view, analyze, and make comments. Jessica, a student from Atlanta, Georgia, has all of her food sorted by colour. In addition to the United States, the site has photos from fans in Italy, France, Belgium, and The Netherlands. [More]

”Befuddlr"With Erik Kastner & Amy Hoy's Befuddlr you can grab any picture from the photo-sharing community Flickr (including your own if you have an account) and transform it into a drag-n-drop picture puzzle game. The picture is then sliced up into tiles and mixed up, just like the rose photo pictured, and from there you can use your mouse to swap them around and place them back in order. Unlike most tile-based puzzle games, you can swap any two tiles with each other, you're not forced to slide them about or be limited to just switching adjacent tiles. As the photos on Flickr can be detail-ruch, the challenge is still strong. [More]

”Firebrand"Imagine if MTV were to launch a new channel that played popular TV Commercials the way they do music videos. Place it on the internet and you'd have Firebrand which believes that many commercials are just as entertaining as the programmes they sponsor. You can choose to watch their channel live, where E-Jays and guests offer little ridbits and segways in between the spots, or you can skip the polished chatter and just access their database where you can view, rate, and create your own playlists. Make sure to check out the 1st Ave Machine spot. [More]
