E3 ExpoThat’s it, everyone out of the pool. Its official, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) as many video game fans know it, will now cease to be and a smaller, more intimate video game industry gathering is set to take its place. If you caught my segments from the show in Los Angeles over the last three years, perhaps you could tell that things were getting out of hand. It was always supposed to be a gathering of friends, but like any party held at a rich kid’s house, word got around and everybody showed up. Next thing you know, Sony’s renting Dodger Stadium. Sympatico MSN Music StoreBell Canada has “announced today the introduction” (think about that phrase for a moment) of the Sympatico/MSN Music Store, their Canadian competitor to Apple’s iTunes. Formerly the Sympatico Music Store or Bell Sympatico Music Store, I think the big change is the added MSN brand right in the name. [More]

scannersAlthough many printers now come with built-in scanners, there are many advantages to buying a dedicated scanner such as a higher resolution, built-in photo restoration, colour correction, negative and slide scanning, a larger scanning area, and faster speed. You can have all of these features for less than $200, making it an attractive option for anyone with a serious scrapbooking or genealogy project, or someone with a large photo library who is looking to make their way in the 21st century. Make My People SingFinally, you're in charge of your own band. In Make My People Sing, just click on each of the musicians to get them playing and then click them again to stop. Try mixing and playing with combinations and press the record feature to save your composition. Don't forget the boombox. Similar in idea to the Singing Horses I showcased earlier. [More]

Since I went on and on about the wonders of Ferro Fluid in my Science Centre coverage, I thought it only fair to actually show you a clip of what I'm talking about. Here is the beautiful and sometimes creepy sculptures of Sachiko Kodama and Minako Takeno in Japan, a collection of works the two women have titled Project Protrude, Flow. Here's their statement on the project

Music Mix RoomBubble portraits, ferro fluid fountains, wind tubes, sound rooms, a word harp, this is the kind of “cool stuff” you expect to find when visiting a science centre, and of the 55 new exhibits in the Weston Family Innovations Hall, these are my favorites. Ferro Fluid is a liquid that becomes extremely polarized in the presence of a magnetic field. It’s a black, tar-like goop that looks deceptively boring and unusual, like something you’d find at the bottom of a fisherman’s boot [More]

Stop-Motion AnimationSo your vacuuming adding machine invention was a failure, your dumpster shoe design fell apart, and the Challenge Room proved to be too much of a challenge. There are exhibits were results are guaranteed and thankfully they do involve robots. And weird, psycho puppets, and small, bizarre stop-motion animations [More]
